Look at the chart in the post you replied to. French spending went up from 2012 to 2013 and from 2013 to 2014. If they had "austerity" in 2013 it was tax increases. I posted the following........please read the content that followed: That's right. France didn't implement austerity measures until 2013 [and then reversed course in 2014] like its Euro neighbors but the austerity budgets of its neighbors has hurt its economic prospects:
