The actual effects of government austerity can be different depending on the situation and the austerity. Tax increases have been clearly shown to be harmful in such a situation. Reducing spending has had different effects, but a very small cut is very unlikely to have massive effects on the economy, and even more unlikely years later.

You're being illogical. First of all, when everyone is cutting back, it makes no sense for gov't to cut back. Its not complicated. People need jobs....esp during a recession...and if not jobs, some kind of economic support. If they don't have jobs and know assistance, they will stop spending, exacerbating an already bad situation. We know corp America is made up of assholes so we know they will cut as many people as possible to maintain profits and the lifestyles of upper mgmt. During recessions, the only entity that has the ability and willingness to spend is gov't.

Secondly, you are kidding yourself if you don't think small cuts in gov't spending won't have an impact. In fact, it will hurt people who are on the edge already and will result in fewer jobs as we saw in the last recession.

I can't decide whether you've learned a possible economic theory and then try make everything fit that theory, or you just don't understand economics.

Your the one who's posts on this conversation have been completely ideological.

No, Tim, but nice try.
