I remember reading that post, and think "this guy knows what he is doing and has a good plan". I also remember that SI Ron when he went by the moniker "Cheeky Kid" doing something very similar when he was trying out new game software.

I don't go to that extreme, but before I download new software I search the Internet trying to find anyone that has anything bad to say about the software before downloading it. I don't look for positive reviews (they are too easy to fake); I look for negative reviews. And I am VERY careful when I download and install new software. I download it to my computer and then scan it with anti-virus and anti-malware programs before I start the installation process. I always use the "custom" install option, if it is offered and then carefully read each step of the installation process. I have even stopped an installation because I did not like something the EULA.
