Company Press Release
Aberdeen Group Begins Coverage of Electronic Commerce Markets
BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 16, 1997--Aberdeen Group today announced that it is beginning coverage of Electronic Commerce markets with the publication of an Aberdeen Research Report entitled: The Dollars and Sense of the New Electronic Commerce: Business-to-Business Electronic Commerce in Transition.

The report contains the initial findings of a continuing research program which is being conducted by the Aberdeen Group and is focused on the electronic commerce (EC) marketplace. The research is based on interviews with the major suppliers of Internet-enabled business-to-business electronic commerce software, suppliers of Electronic Data Interchange software, and end-user organizations who are current or prospective users of a variety of types of business-to-business EC automation.

''The New Electronic Commerce is leading the re-invention of large portions of the enterprise and its business application environment using Internet technologies to deliver applications which support re-engineered, more effective business process models,'' said David Alschuler, the author of the report. ''This is a business and technology transition which has parallels in the shift from mainframe to Client-Server architectures and is likely to be equally significant.''

The report proposes an analytical framework through which EC products and suppliers can be understood and compared. Seventeen supplier organizations are profiled in the context of this framework, including: Ariba Technologies; Aspect Development (NASDAQ:ASDV); Commerce One; Connect (NASDAQ:CNKT); ELEKOM; Fulcrum Technologies (NASDAQ:FULCF); GE Information Services (NYSE:GE - news); Harbinger Corporation (NASDAQ:HARBC); Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT); Open Markets (NASDQ:OPMK): Premenos (NASDAQ:PRMO); SpaceWorks; Sterling Commerce (NYSE:SE); The EC Company; TRADE'ex; TSI International; and US West Communications Network Services (NYSE:USW)

The Dollars and Sense of the New Electronic Commerce is intended for an audience of corporate management responsible for planning and managing initiatives for electronic commerce, strategic marketing, customer satisfaction, and technology planning as well as industry financial analysts.

The report is available for $950 per copy and may be ordered from the Aberdeen Web page (http://www.aberdeen.com) or by calling the Aberdeen Group Publications Manager at 617-723-7890. The report is 115 pages, and includes 13 figures. On-site educational briefings based on the research findings are also available. A second Aberdeen Research Report, Internet Sales: Virtual Corporations, Real Profits, will be published in August, 1997 and will focus on the demand side of electronic commerce and the sales of goods and services to consumers over the Internet.
