There's too many of those forms and they are ubiquitous.

Actually, in terms at least of Protestantism (and partially true of Catholicism as well), focusing on political positions from within the traditions, there are two very large ones. One of the most prominent social ethics theological movement on the twentieth century was the social gospel movement--which occupied, in its time, much the same political turf of many of us on this thread. Reinhold Neibuhr's social ethics work was a critique of that in the interests of more political realism but from within the same set of political concerns. Both were large presences within Protestantism.

There were and are parallel theological positions and movements within Catholicism.

And much of it is a critique of the second form, the narrow minded bigotry that we often see these days parading as proper religious belief.
