The domestic Russian mainstream news has become completely unhinged since the Western embargo on Russia.

The most recent Russian headlines "revealed" that Kate Middleton did not actually leave the hospital 2 hours after giving birth. Instead a surrogate had given birth two days previously and Kate merely went to the hospital to pick-up her new baby and remove the cushion from her stomach.

The one reliable news source, "The Moscow Times" owned by a Finnish company and published in English, primarily for western business people in Russia will likely no be so reliable going forward. Under new media laws, they were forced to sell their newspaper and magazines last week to a Russian owner who has far more to fear from Putin should he decide to continue running cartoons and articles critical of Putin and his government.

In the past their cartoonist "Putin's Russia" has swung between mild ribbing, showing Putin sitting alone at the "Olympic Bar" while the bartender asks if he wants ice with his Sochi, to cartoons which reveal Putin as a thug or mad man.

This cartoon, just before "The Moscow Times" was sold. The FSB now has thousands of hired bloggers posting Russian nonsense in multiple languages around the world. It's similar to the KGB operations which planted false news stories in obscure press around the world, hoping it would be picked up by mainstream western journalists without check the facts.
