Yes, I can think of an alternative: Microsoft is held in contempt. More importantly, whether this happens or not, the DOJ will have renewed vigor to go after Microsoft, in a much broader scope. Their hiring of this top-notch lawyer shows their resolve to deal with Microsoft. Microsoft needs to act quickly to thwart the negative press they are receiving, and I think they will offer a reasonable solution to satisfy the judge's ruling, perhaps tomorrow, and by Christmas at the latest.
