As you say, we'll see. I can see IBM breaking their 'margin' rule for such a strategic move. What are their margins on OS/2 I wonder?
Highest performance is a bit unlikely. A minute ago everyone was saying how the NC DIDN'T need performance, now we have high-performance NCs. If it's a high performance NC, then the Pentium Pro will offer best value for money (although certain, very high-end users might prefer the new Silicon Graphics NC). If it requires minimal performance (so the user can't do anything, and hence doesn't bother MIS) then a nice low-end 486 from Cyrix/AMD stockpile will do fine.

I'm kidding you a bit, but I'm not sure there's really much of a market for NCs, and what there is can be filled with existing, PC-based technology.

PS I remember a company that used NT throughout. In order to change the display form 600x800 to 640x480, MIS had to be called (it was password protected) and the MIS guy arrived some 5 minutes later. By the time I'd worked out that the lower resolution didn't solve my problem, it was another 10 minutes before MIS could send someone to put the display driver back. Mmm, 20 mins of messing around. I wonder, was it worth it? Also, how do you specify your required screen resolution in an NC? I mean, who provides all those drivers? Or does MIS decide?
