Jack:

It is interesting to note that although there are lengthy procedures to join the United States, there are no procedures to secede from it. From time to time we hear of states such as Alaska talking about secession. What if it truly happened? Would the federal government send in troops? Would there be an economic boycott? How would the other States react? Would some also move to secede?

A confederacy lends itself to much more freedom for both States and individuals than the federalism that Hamilton promoted. Something that should be seriously looked into again. What failed to flower in the 1800s may take root in the 21st Century, especially since so much of the Constitution and Bill of Rights has been effectively trashed during the last 100 years.
