STRIKING AT MICROSOFT'S CLASSIFIEDS mediainfo.com

In direct response to the threat posed by the expanding online classified ad ventures of Microsoft Corp., three of the country's largest newspaper companies have joined together to create what they hope will be a national online classified ad colossus.

The Times Mirror Company, Tribune Company, and The Washington Post Company have pooled their resources to form classified Ventures, an Internet technology partnership housed in the Chicago complex of Tribune Company. In January, Classified Ventures is scheduled to launch the Cars.com Web site as well as a program aimed at recruiting other affiliate newspapers across the country.


What's with these guys, can't they take Bill at his word that he doesn't want to compete with them? It's getting harder and harder to sneak up on people these days. . . .
