Good questions, Father: My only reasoned support for the strong union is in time of war. Imagine if some confederate states agreed to go to war and others didn't. Would we be an easy conquest for the many aggressive nations now and formerly on the planet? This asks the larger question of the rationale for warfare: Is our country truly about to be invaded, or is this a distant war interfering with (genuflect) TRADE, the profits of the big businesses and of course, their subsequent contributions to the political party in power. Business discovered in the nineteenth century that they could make money on munitions which destroy the works of man, and then make money again rebuilding the destruction their products caused. The loss of peoples lives was secondary to them. Sorry, I digress. Jack
