In general, if you have an intel processor with virtualization technology then a VM will run with 90+ percent speed vs the native operation. Have not followed amd.

So todays such processors make lack of response perception invisible.

So why do you want each OS. Unique apps to each. Your basic office apps are ported. vlc for movies ported.

What are my unique borg apps. Bid-O-Matic (ebay) DesignPro 5(labels) Audials, GoldWeave itunes to convert audible aa to mp3 sans drm. turbolister (ebay) Irfanview (images) Irfanview is the best in borg. However xv from John Bradley, last updated 1994 is still the best for linux. I often use both processing images. Also I use the image magick tools that are ported to borg but they are command line apps and borg OSes do not handle command lines as simply.

I also do a lot of linux scripting, bat files in borg. bat files in borg are stone age tech and many linux command line apps simply do not really exist in borg.

Even with SSD rebooting to dual boot is timely and you lose or have to close all open apps to reboot. Dual boot is so operationally cumbersome that I would suggest you will seldom do it.

I still run both borg and linux on two computers. With NAS, borg sharing and linux nfs I have cross mounted drives. I switch between OSes from moment to moment. I have been testing with vm's with parallels. This is primarily for my laptops.

But this is not portable.
