I have used VMware and VirtualBox. My son recommends VirtualBox. More open source. I find them about equal obtuseness.
My son is an apple OS x fan, but uses linux at home and at work. He works for Intel. Works on software development tools for embedded microprocessors and micro controllers.

From my current level of use I have not really major cons or pros.

But this link provides several opinions that seem overall to be reasonable. Which to me indicate flip a coin.
