Steve, Thanks for your detailed response.
go read the nopvember and december posts on cpq thread... same thing..the bears and those who now nothing posting that we are tanking in 1998 and me saying we aren't tanking and outlining reasons
As I posted you before I have no doubt that CPQ will go ahead at a very good pace and this is a great company. My point is that explosive grows in the computer industry is slowing down its pace for a while, probably for a year. Industry will keep growing, it will outperform other sectors, but not by that huge margin that we got used to. Retooling is replacing of existing tools, it keeps industry alive and well, but the fact itself that most of the sold computers goes for replacement of existing ones tells that industry is maturing. It needs new killer aplications. I think in 1998 we may see some hibernating in computer stocks until several factors kick in: preparing for Y2K ; NT5 release , infrastructure for multimedia starts appearing. In 1999 we may see explosion in computer sector again. I'm not a computer specialist by any measure and this is just MHO. P.S. I'm not a bull, I'm not a bear, I'm just trying to figure out where things are heading and act accordingly. |
