History should make us reluctant to involve ourselves in other people's business. Every time we get involved in the Middle East and Near East it turns to shit. Without exception.

Today's ally is tomorrow's enemy and years from now our friend of convenience again, fighting people we armed in a cyclic manner.

Although the region impacts our national security to a small degree, we have never demonstrated a "winning hand" in getting involved there.

Iran's nuclear plants were built as part of Eisenhower's "Atoms for Peace" program, while Israel's nuclear plants were secretly provided by the French against US wishes.

We weaponized the Shah of Iran, an atheist in a Shia nation, to keep the Sunni's in check, in particular Saudi Arabia.

When Iran's government changed we heavily armed Saddam Hussein with the latest weapons during the 1980 to 1988 Iran-Iraq War.

Not content with this mischief we also armed the Taliban between 1978 and 1992 with Project Cyclone, and recruited and trained Saudi citizen to lead the fight in the Afghan War including Osama bin Laden personally. Needless to say, the end result of our stirring the pot in Afghanistan was 9/11.

We have provided annual military gifts and intelligence to Pakistan for decades, which led to Pakistan having a nuclear weapon in 1998 and double-crossing us each chance they've had - including providing Osama bin Ladin with a safe base of operations. And let's not forget that Pakistan has provided complete nuclear weapon technology to North Korea.

Recently we encouraged democracy in Egypt and quickly supported the removal of democracy in Egypt when it became apparent that democracy in Egypt is theocratic and anti-Western.

Our most recent triumph was creating ISIS by invading and destabilizing Iraq by removing the minority Sunni's from power.

There's always some group of American idiots who have a new sure-fire scheme to run that region/s business "better than they can themselves". What a self-delusion. When will we finally realize that we're not helping to ourselves or others long-term interests in that region? America needs to mind its own business.
