I think another trend is developing in the software industry. I read somewhere recently that companies are now begining to consider offering software on a pay-per-use basis rather than selling all or nothing. There is evidence that this model will gain a pretty good share of the software market for big business. They only pay for what they use, vendors are able to sell "pints of milk instead of the whole cow" resulting in a bigger market.

This may partially explain IBM's interest in the stock. However, this is still a VERY long-term play. No price action until there is revenue and there will be no revenue until there is a large install base of the meters. This echo's Spragues statement sometime ago that it a game of market share. (Similar to Gate's model of just about giving away Windows to get the market share so software developers spend all there time writing code for Windows and none else.)
