bentway - You are exactly right. My point was that you cannot stop a criminal who wants a gun from getting one. All we can do is arm the law abiding citizens so they can defend themselves from criminals if need be.
It is not the job of the Police to protect you. They cannot protect you. By the time the police arrive they are there to investigate the crime. They bag you and tag you and then they try to solve your murder case.
Believing in personal responsibility as I do, I believe it is my place to protect myself, my family and if need be my fellow citizens.

Another point that needs to be made is this. You cannot compare any other country to the US. No other country has our history and our problems. Think about that for a while and maybe some light will break through as to why we have a lot more gun violence than others. I might add that our history cannot be changed. In the real world there are no do overs no matter how much you wish there were and there are consequences.
