Just a small point, Amtrak is the modern day version of the train. A train is what got me back and forward to college at times. Trains have carried our military and families back and forth during times of peace and war. Just look at the use of trains in WWII. A train makes a great vacation. A train can go where a plane cannot go. I love trains. I even rode an old fashion coal fired train when the Greyhound Bus routed wrong to a destination. That was an experience I will never forget. Regretfully, the passengers on the Amtrak did not survive a badly engineered train and tracks. The larger question is how much should the "government" be involved in our inventions that succeed and fail. The Federal Government a large Caesar that runs employees like ants--------Obama's government has become the 'country store' and is a failure under Mr. O.. The singer, Ernie Ford, had it right------You load 16 tons and what you get? This is exactly what our Federal Government is expert at doing--------since the street organizer Oama went to Chicago. The same can happen with airplanes and does regularly. Unfortunately, we do travel at our own risk. Travel is a risk under any condition including any vehicle including the passage across this nation from East to West via buggies . Not criticizing you-----just laying out some of the big picture. Pay to travel on Plane------no just more control by Mr. O and his ilk.
