This is all going on right now and we will not have to wait until 2000. Businesses like ATHM are offering blazing internet speed for $30 - $40/month.

I don't know about ATHM. Here in Toronto we have cable companies offering cable modems. I've seen other people using it. Don't count on it for a while.
First of all cable hot secure. It can easily be intercepted by anybody in your neibourghood. Second, it is only fast if you are the only person using it. When others in the heibourghood start using it they all have to share the same bandwidth and things are slowing to a crawl. Also, web sites and Internet don't have a capacity to handle highspeed traffic. And the last that comes to mind, but not least is our computers. They can't handle those speeds. After you download a graphic file it takes ages for the processor, graphics card and browser to handle it. Forget motion pictures. Computers that would be able to handle it are not on the market yet. From what I've seen cable modem didn't make any noticeable difference compared to my USR Sportster 33.6. I don't want to sound silly, there must be difference. Most probably it was less than 10% and I couldn't notice it.
Also, DELL gives a great run down of the level of saturation in USA and there is plenty yet to be sold to. Europe is just opening up, in their eyes, and a great market for expansion (CPQ is way ahead of DELL there).
I have know doubt that production of computers is on the rise. My point was that until new killer applications that require us to replace our computers come it will not be that explosive rise that we got spoiled by.
In general, most of the world market has not even been approached yet and box prices are going down so the market can be made. I think there is lots of strong growth ahead. I note Merrill Lynch says they think CPQ will make 100 in a year's time.
I agree on that. One may argue on how the latest development in Asia may affect sales of american goods. I don't know the answer. Cpq may make 100 in a year's time. I have no problem with it no matter what Merry Lynch'em says.
