1 - Automation and/or business process improvements reduce the need for employment. These might not have made sense with cheap enough labor, but the more expensive labor is the more time, effort, and cost can be spared for such efforts.
Any job or process that is repetitive is likely to be automated, it doesn't matter what they are paying for the labor at this moment......could be your job next. Those that lose those jobs to automation are going to be screwed because they won't be qualified to run the new equipment or processes. Conservative resistance to education in this country will tend to drive us toward a sidewalk economy as found in 3rd world countries...
2 - Push existing people to work harder and/or hire more qualified better workers at the higher rate to do more for the extra rate, pushing out the marginal employees.
Like pay time and a half to work overtime? You're also proposing merit pay, what a novel idea? The slavers used your ideas.... they used whips....

4 - Business goes under, or location goes under, or expansion on site or to new sites, or start up of new business, or success of new business doesn't happen - Either directly because of the costs, or because they raise prices to cover the costs and sales are lower at the higher prices. No replacement here, the job is just lost.
Any person who can't afford to pay the going rate for labor needs to adjust his business model to keep his production up or he doesn't deserve to be in the business......
