It is my understanding that AER was initially formed to develop Zn-Air batteries in the late 80's for automobiles. Is this so? I would ask some other questions as well.

1) Why did Bass give AER the big capital infusion so late in the game?

2) If AER's products have been continually sub-par then why have two big OEMs (not counting Zenith which failed d/t specs) even tried
to integrate them into their product?

3) Who did the recent insider-buying move on the mercury news,
and what were they trying to accomplish?

4) Have there been any advances in the automotive industry along the
lines of solving the recharge problem with Zn-Air cells? Could
AER acquire this technology at a modest price?

I agree with Glenn and John Q.s analysis of the current picture.
AER has burnt capital, wasted time, produced unmarketable products, and has been rather vague about the future. In light of all of these factors it would seem that there must be a piece of the puzzle missing...otherwise it should have been the denouement a long time ago.
