Well, you said solar never occurred to you ... so you must have forgotten. Or maybe you only installed it for ego reasons ... to show off ... and the solar on that business property wouldn't reflect on you so it would have been worthless to you.

I do have a power bill, but I didn't shell out over $10K for a solar system.

You know what you could have done with $10K back when you installed your solar system? You could have invested it in KMR. If you'd have done that, you'd have $47K worth of KMI stock today (after a merger each KMR unit turned into about 2.5 shares of KMI) , which would be paying you $2,111 a year in dividends. That's better than $23.

It's a shame you worked for the VA all those years and never invested in any of the companies whose names you probably saw daily. Here's a site that shows what $10K would have turned into over the last 10 years if invested in BDX (if you worked in healthcare, you couldn't avoid using some of their products every day ... unless you actually did spend all your time surfing porn at work):

historicalstockprice.com

That's not bad is it? Punch in some other healthcare stocks ... abt, jnj, bmy, whatever and see what you could've done instead.
