On the Windows platform, applications revenues grew 49% from Q4 1996 to Q4 1997. This growth occurred despite the following negative factors: (1) weak Japanese economy, (2) no major product introducts.

As Mac sales become a smaller and smaller share of the pie, the continued strong growth of the Windows professional graphics market is going to accelerate Adobe's revenue growth.

Adobe's main competitor for applications products on the Windows platform has been Corel, which has lost virtually all its senior people and has suffered plunging revenues.

To me, the reorganization into Enterprise, Professional, and Consumer segments is fantastic. Each of these, especially Enterprise, requires a particular focus. In the past, Adobe's flavor has been driven by its professional products to the detriment of enterprise and consumer products. In a qualitative sense, the restructuring should liberate a lot of potential.

A final positive is the way in which Warnock and Geschke appear to be grooming a new tier of senior managers for eventual leadership. I really admire W & G for their management style.
