"you said solar never occurred to you"
Why should it?I didn't approach somebody and say, "Let me design a building for you to buy".

"maybe you only installed it for ego reasons "
Maybe I only installed it so I wouldn't have to worry about paying the electricity bill when I'm old.

"It's a shame you worked for the VA all those years and never invested in any of the companies whose names you probably saw daily"
I didn't know that. It's a good thing I already had an IRA when I started there. I put a lot of my wages into my 401K the year I installed solar. I needed to keep my income down, cuz I wanted to actually not pay taxes for a war for once in my working life.

"the solar on that business property wouldn't reflect on you so it would have been worthless to you."
If west-facing solar was on that property, it would reflect on the eyeballs of everybody coming thru town. It would have been less than worthless to me, cuz I would have a smaller wallet, while they would have free electricity.
