NEWS: Ciprico and HUCOM Partner to Promote Fibre Channel in Japan with Ciprico RAID Storage Products

MINNEAPOLIS, Dec. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Ciprico Inc. (Nasdaq: CPCI), a major supplier of Fibre Channel RAID-3 disk array storage solutions for the imaging marketplace, today announced the extension of a key partnership agreement with HUCOM, Incorporated of Tokyo, Japan to distribute Ciprico's 7000 Series of Fibre Channel disk arrays.

HUCOM is marketing Ciprico's Fibre Channel storage solutions primarily to OEMs and large end users with networks in the Sun, IBM and Windows NT environments. The company is one of the founders of the Fibre Channel Association in Japan, and has been actively promoting Fibre Channel technology there.

"Both HUCOM and Ciprico are strong proponents of Fibre Channel," said Robert H. Kill, Ciprico's President and CEO, "and we are pleased that the relationship between our companies has grown and prospered along with the excitement about this technology. HUCOM supplies the majority of Fibre Channel and networking products to the Japanese market, and they are a vital part of our international distribution channel."

"Fibre Channel technology is the interface of the future," said Mr. Hideaki Sato, president of HUCOM, "and the interest in Fibre Channel products in Japan is very high. The computer industry is gearing up with connectivity products to support the interface, and so the potential market here in Japan for Ciprico's 7000 Series of Fibre Channel disk arrays is rapidly growing." Mr. Hideaki Sato is also Chairman of the Board for the Japan's Fibre Channel Association, and is a key contributor to the market success of Fibre Channel technology and products in Japan.

Although Fibre Channel has been available for only a few years, it is fast becoming accepted as the standard interface of choice for high-speed peripherals. Ciprico's 7000 Series provides a 100 MB/second Fibre Channel interface -- more than twice the performance rate provided by disk arrays with UltraSCSI, the fastest SCSI interface available today. This means that the 7000 can use the newest high-speed drives available, at maximum drive performance, without being hindered by the speed of the interface.

Ciprico has been in the forefront of developing Fibre Channel technology for use in storage products for visual computing applications, and the 7000 was the first RAID-3 Fibre Channel disk array available anywhere. The company has been a member of the Fibre Channel Association (FCA) and the Fibre Channel Loop Community (FCLC) since 1994 and has been active in educating the industry on the performance gains and network capabilities of high-speed disk arrays with this interface.

HUCOM Incorporated is the leading seller of Fibre Channel and computer networking products in Japan. The company provides network security products such as One Time password, Firewalls, Wireless LAN Devices, and Network Management Tools with a wide range of the products for complete enterprise network solutions. In addition, the company offers consultation and support services to its customers. For more information, please contact HUCOM at www.hucom.co.jp.

Ciprico Inc., an ISO 9000-certified company, designs, manufactures, markets and services disk arrays for the high-performance imaging and digital media markets. The company's products are sold worldwide to technical, scientific, and creative professionals who require high performance, large capacities, and fault tolerance from their storage.
