Sorry for late reply, I'm not very active on SI... (we were taking Windows vs Linux)
My post was about average user not business clients
1. limited, little or no support. Requires installation and setup. Existing Windows based systems would require conversion and tested to be ported over. Learning and training needed. 2. Minimal training needed for new hires. Come pre-installed on new machines. Systems already developed, installed, running and maintained. 1 was for linux - 'limited, little or no support' - not so true, install Mint, you get free real time chat support 24/7, can't get this for Windows and forums are helping beginners (not that there is much help needed for average user) - 'requires installation and setup' - not necessary, some (and more are coming) are being pre-installed - 'learning and training needed' - less than learning new windows 8, - 'conversion and porting...' - I had average windows deskop/laptop user in my mind
2 was for windows - 'minimal training needed for new hires' - same for Linux, minimal training needed for new average user - 'come pre-installed on new machines' - you can get linux pre-installed on new computer - 'systems already developed, installed, running and maintained' - and Linux does not? IMHO Linux is ahead
Average user that don't use some special software, (for which you could always have set up double boot and yes someone would probably need to help average user with double boot set-up), most of the time don't even notice different OS. Average user don't need to go and look under the hood, and don't need to learn any geek advanced stuff. Thousands of free and malware free apps are available through simple software interface you can intuitively use without ever being show how to. The rest is the same (for average user), internet browsing, email, chat, video conferencing, social media, pictures, video and music manipulating...
Windows machine gets slower over time and you need a geek to get it faster Linux machine does not slows down over time
Windows machine gets infected if you start installing free software Linux machine stays malware free
There is most software that is on Windows available on Linux as well. Not all true, but most of the time you can find alternative, many times better alternative. And it is just going to get better over time for Linux. There is an army of volunteers working on free and open projects for Linux. My opinion is, computer world will be different in 5 years from now....
Screenshot bellow shows over 67,000 software package available for free. (but there is more if needed) Installation is as simple as click on category (say internet), click on application (say firefox mozilla) and then click on 'Install' button - is that simple, and your system will not get infested or slower or freeze... How cool is that...
I really encourage users here, that have older, slower or infested computer they don't use, to try and install say Linux Mint Xfce and play around (or ask someone to put it on computer for you). You may be surprised what you may find out...
