Their parents work for low-wage employers, and can't afford to buy as much food as you think they should after paying for all the other expenses, like shelter, utility bills, and transportation to their jobs. School meals only help on days when there is school.

If by OK you mean hungry, and needing assistance from school programs, food pantries, and food stamps, yes, they will OK.
