When were you planning on announcing your canidacy? :-)

When I first heard the damn Yankee phrase, it was told to me as a joke, but damn was prefaced with the word (come to think of it, I'd rather not say). Anyway the punch line goes something like, "It wasn't until I was 21 that I realized they were two separate words."

This is also somewhat in response to Jack also because I spent most of the morning thinking about what he said.

I was born and raised in the Jayhawker state. The only thing I knew of the "severe war" was what I had read or was taught in school (most of which I have forgotten). There were no locals buried in the local cemetary as far as I remember which fought in the Civil War. But I'm sure there were some. And I really don't remember where KS stood in regard to the conflict. I think it was with the Union. I do remember something about John Brown's Raiders sacking Lawrence, KS.

If Kansans were to dwell on that one incident the same way which I have percieved the South to do in relation to its own stance in the war, I would find it difficult for anyone to ever forget who wronged who which is basically my point. Why a hundred and some years later is it still so important?

I think it is only important to those who have continued to stay generation after generation in basically the same area. Do those from the South who live else where in the U.S. export these types of ideas to their children even though they are probably living in a different area with a different history? JF, you want to field this one?

BTW, why am I seeing reference to Sherman's March so much lately? Also I would add, one does what one has to, to win. From the Ken Burns' series about the Civil War, it is a miracle the North ever won.

Catch ya all later
