Sam, What you say is true, I believe as well, concerning the buyout speculation rumors. Certainly that was true this past week. When the news hit about the AVGO, BRCM merger, the SOX responded with a 3.9% jump on Wednesday to go over 740, and then actually gained another 0.4% on Thursday and Friday to finish at 745+ for the week.

But this buyout fever is part of the fuel that causes increased euphoria on the part of individuals and companies. It is a process that sort of builds on itself to greater and greater heights, and real value is left "eating dust". At the moment, the process building is probably a good one and is not bad in and of itself. The time to watch out is when the smaller companies get involved that do not have the resources to make a go of it once they have merged.

Having said all that, the world economy in this day and age compared to 15 years ago is a lot different. What happens in the rest of the world today compared to 15 years ago is a lot more important than it was then.
