Not sure if I agree that the Alberta strains will ever again be economic

What we see happening, at an increasing rate, is a massive transition to renewables where possible

As the reliance on burning fossil fuels drops for stationary applications, I expect demand for those fuels still required for transportation modes that cannot switch to renewable sources to drop precipitously

I expect that the margins for producers for these fuel sources to be such that only the cheapest sources will need to be tapped to meet the residual demand

..in any case, it's hard to imagine steam rendered fuel to be economic going forward

..as far as batteries, this guy is making progress
