"you say renewables and EV's are competitive now." Renewables are competitive. Takes time to build them. That's why we have a series of targets, Takes a while to build 30 million EVs, too. The existing infrastructure and vehicle fleet wasn't built in a week, and it won't be replaced in a week. If we bump the tax up from 63 cents to $15/gal tonight, most people will be able to afford the gas they have in their tank tomorrow morning. The poor ones will prolly sell what they have. Within a week, only the rich will be on the road, and that puts them in danger of being on the dinner table.
