Realistically speaking, some path to citizenship is all that is possible.
They have a path to legal residency. They can apply for it and get in line. Once here, they can work their way toward naturalization, just like everyone else who immigrated here.

Pragmatism means raising the limits on legal immigration. Giving amnesty to lawbreakers only encourages more lawbreaking.

I have lots of friends and coworkers who had to struggle through the normal channels to even get the legal right to work here. Those channels would be a lot smoother to navigate if we got a better handle on immigration.

P.S. - I realize that I hold a minority opinion. Too many conservatives want to keep the existing limits on legal immigration while closing the borders, while too many liberals want to simply throw the doors open.
