I think even without that pact that Germany would have taken Western Europe. That's called historical speculation. I can do it too. Hitler was a veteran of the first world war. Germany & Austria-Hungary had been opposed by the Triple Entente - Britain, France, and Russia. I think he realized Germany's problem of having enemies on two fronts and sought the pact with Stalin in order to take one enemy out of the fight while he dealt with the other front. Why else would he have sought an alliance with Stalin?
