Yes, it is incredible. At least I have a another computer----that works--- it is an old Acer loaned to me by a friend. A local computer expert put a new battery in it and new fan. Doing great.

The uninvited Microsoft upgrade could have been the problem. I am going to follow up again as noted in the previous note here.

Local expert tells me that dealing with the on line problem solvers rarely works. That has been my experience to date. He may be able to unlock the files after which I will print and delete the files.
Spent quite a bit of time reviewing general comments about the Microsoft versions.

Now to the next problem---------we are getting spammed with telephone calls for everything under the sun.
Just got a call from a guy saying he was the IRS. Of course, you don't provide any info to these people----these are the identity theft people.
