but the idea of a multipurpose OS will get better over time

A multipurpose OS will always be well or less well executed. Based upon proportion of tablet babies increasing, I expect less well executed. The changes I have seen made are just as much a story or creating over complex solutions that are more obtuse and layered abstractions that create more holes of ambiguity.

The constant in multipurpose tools is they will always have compromises. ergonomic best layout for screen fingering vs mouse and keyboard will always be different depending upon application.

A fingertip is pixel pointer from x to y pixels in size where x is usually several. A mouse can be a 1 pixel pointer.

And there is the problem of those who are tablet wizzes simply cannot see why or how mouse keyboard wizzes execute tasks and vice versa.
