When someone is speaking in the first person, they often say "you" when they should be saying "I'.

It's defensive language, to avoid making a shameful admission by implying that everyone, including you, would do the same thing I did. But it is irritating because it's a backhanded accusation. However, I think its offense is unconscious on their part.
