It is because they have no sense of history. They only know the Bowlderized versions. If you read contemporary accounts, the facts of the situation had not escaped many people. FDR certainly knew those feelings were widespread. That is why he was so bold. He also knew what was at stake, we were close to a revolution. There are similar forces at work now.
