People in Blue States seek psychiatric help 50% more often than in Red States.
This is NOT a surprise.

People who live in liberal states search for psychologists on Google 50% more, per capita, than people from conservative states. Vermont has the most searchers for mental health help, at 74% greater than the national average, which makes sense, since it is a far-left state with a socialist Senator, Bernie Sanders, who likes to talk about the joys of rape. People in liberal Massachusetts and far-left New York search 55% and 56% more often for therapists as well (California, which you would expect to be worst of all, is "only" 41% above average). By contrast, in Idaho, (adjusted for population size), people search 51% less often for therapists, 34% less often in Wyoming, and 29% less in Oklahoma. There is also an astonishing 76% more therapists per capita in Blue States.
If you read the Times article about this they will be quick to say that every one needs therapy in equal amounts and it's just that the people in Red states aren't getting as much. I have a different interpretation. People in Blue states are more likely to be liberals, and liberals are more likely to be mentally ill. Liberals suffer from
1) Phobias, such as fears that they are destroying the Earth (when in reality, they are only destroying America)
2) Guilt, for being white or male or having a job or earning money
3) Unhappiness with their bodies or sexuality, due to schizophrenia or gender identity disorder
4) Greed and envy, towards other people's property
5) Anger towards people of different genders or races
and so on. Is is any wonder that they need psychological counseling more often, when their whole ideology is based various forms of mental disorders? Just take so-called "Transgenderism." The small percentage of people who have it are clearly mentally ill, but instead of treating it like an illness, the media and educators in Blue States treat it like something that should be fashionable, and actually promote this sort of illness to others. The culture there teaches people, in order words, to embrace these mental disorders. Today it's Bruce Jenner on the cover of Vogue; what will it be tomorrow, someone else celebrating the joys of schizophrenia? Paranoia?
Let's have a support group in the comments section. Tell a story about a liberal friend needing or getting therapy.

“At the core of liberalism is the spoiled child — miserable, as all spoiled children are, unsatisfied, demanding, ill-disciplined, despotic and useless. Liberalism is a philosophy of sniveling brats.” ? P.J. O'Rourke

When in spiritual trouble, our locals here in the heartland seek help at a church. Divorce, single parenting problems, financial difficulty needing help with family budgeting, many outreach programs of assistance offered at churches locally.
Makes sense to me that deep blue states they have a completely different set of high priests. ...........

I have an otherwise harmless liberal friend who thinks that one day gays could grow to be 50% of the population, lol. ..............

I used to be liberal and did my share of therapy. Can't say any were worth the money. Best move was getting right with the Lord. They don't understand that hole in the heart can only be filled with God. .............

I suffered from "depression" or as I refer to it now as "My Little Pity Party". Now don't get me wrong, there are some people who truly do suffer depression that was not the case for me but I was told by "professionals" that I was depressed. One day after getting my kids off to school I was lying in bed being depressed thinking the world was against me, I noticed a little pocket Bible that one of my kids had gotten. I picked it up and started reading the Psalms. I quit feeling sorry for myself. I looked back on my life and realized I made the decisions I did and I took personal responsibility for them and continued to do so moving forward. Did I continue to make mistakes? Yep but now I try to learn from them instead of wallow in them. I have never looked back and I have never been happier. Is my life perfect? Nope but I have God in my life and my perspective on everything changed! .............

Some Liberals think believing in God is a mental illness. I live in Vermont an I can attest. Two new, fairly big medical buildings were constructed not far from where I live. One for patient treatment. The other just for administration. But why in such a beautiful state do Vermonters seek mental health help in such numbers. We have one of the oldest populations per capita in the nation. Despite our low unemployment rate good paying jobs are hard to come by. Smart young people leave for better opportunities. The media is in the liberal tank. The schools were taken over by liberals long ago. Global warming or climate change is real, (They're true believers). Our taxes are sky high. Energy cost are high. Property values are dropping. Drugs use is rampant. We drink a lot of alcohol. And were one of the more secular stares in the country. So I'm not at all surprised that we're at the top of the list.

Your description of Vermont, in many respects (I've never been there), reminds me of the old Soviet Union... ..............
