Ted, here's an example of what's wrong with society today. From the NYTimes op-ed section:

Why I Defaulted on My Student Loans

Is this guy kidding me? This guy, after attending a small liberal arts college to pursue his "passion" in writing, doesn't want to take a job in some other field to pay off his student debts.

Cause you know, he should be able to get an education in whatever the F he wants without having to pay for it, which is why he's advocating a universal education tax so that other people can sail through college for free without accumulating any useful skills in life.

He also cites his "lower middle-class background" as a cause of his financial situation, as if it was a mere inconvenience that he can simply shrug off by defaulting on his loans, rather than a motivation to work harder and give up some of his fantasies so that he can climb his way out of his position in life.

He then makes the usual rants about those richer than himself, how the system is set up to con you into debt, and how greedy the Powers That Be supposedly were in ultimately creating the over $1 trillion in student loan debt.

I want to know what you think, since it's obvious that conservatives like me have no heart and just want people to suffer under the crushing weight of student debt. What was this guy thinking when he went to a (likely expensive) small liberal arts college? Why does he think he shouldn't be obligated to pay off debts he and his parents accumulated? And why can't he stomach having to take up a profession that pays better than writing?

Does he really think that, by telling others to default on their student loans like he did, government will then be forced to give away college education for "free"? Where does he get these cockamamie ideas?
