AMEX short interest falls in December................. biz.yahoo.com Friday December 19, 4:53 pm Eastern Time AMEX mid-December short interest falls NEW YORK, Dec 19 (Reuters) - The American Stock Exchange Friday said short interest totaled 189,752,272 shares as of the December 15 settlement date, down about 3.6 million shares from the mid-November level. The exchange said December 1996 short interest totaled about 121 million shares. The exchange said short positions of 5,000 or more shares existed in 377 of the roughly 1,000 issues traded on the exchange, and some short position existed in 635 of the issues.
