Those large images must be streamed off the disk.

You need to load the images from the hard drive before you can manipulate them, but you spend most of the time manipulating the images. If your system needs to swap to the dis during this process, you have pretty much lost the war. No amount of CPU power will help you much.

As I said, you need 64 Megs just to get going and if you are working with large images, you may even need 256 Megs.

What sometimes happens with the reviewers is that they just mechanically run through the tests using stadard out of the box configurations, without any thinking.
