Sure, it will theoretically transfer at the speed of the link (up to gigabit presently unless you spend some serious money on a faster topology)....but realistically the quality of the cable will determine the speed. Unless you have a second interface card you can't connect to the internet. Using a crossover cable is a point to point interface, only two connections. If a second interface is used, the second one could go to your router/cable modem and you can configure the second computer to access the internet using Windows Internet Connection Sharing.
