I originally replied to you mainly to address your opinions about "EIDE being CPU intensive" and "800K+ speed is typical for EIDE SparQ. Obviously when EIDE SparQ is ship in volume, we can see that it can do significant faster than 800K/s. It should have similar speed class as EIDE Jaz1 and Syjet. I have no idea why you brought up all those WinBench, Raid0 stuff. Level 0 RAID is probably a disk mirror (unless my memory is wrong) which will not give any performance advantage, even if Radi0 is disk stripping how does it relate to my points??? After two posts, you still provide no proof that I am wrong.

The specification is useful to determine the expected performance. Eg) A Quantum Fireball SE will be slightly faster than Seagate ST52520A because it has higher internal data transfer rate and slightly faster access time even though they both are 5400rpm drive. Real life benchmark like WinBench will verify that, no problem. But this is possible that WinBench will repoart a machine with ST52520A being faster than a machine equipped with SE because the differences in other sub-systems but you cannot say that the ST is faster. This is why the spec is important. The tricky part is you understand how to read the spec. I must repeat that "Data Transfer Rate" is not just a guessing data. It is calculated base on spt (sector per track) and rpm of a HDD. Usually it is represent by a range because the spt is not constant (higher in outer track and small in inner track).

[If you have more to say, feel free to email me or move the subject to SyQuest since IOM thread is already too crowd <g>]
