Japan forcasts 1998 GDP growth of 2.4% vs 0.9% in 1997. Capital goods spending will gradually rise from 2.9% GDP in 1997 to 3.5% GDP in 1998.

Don't know if, and how much of, these capital spending rise will be on the semi equips. Hope so, considering Japan recognize the importance of their semi industry.
