I would certainly try these ideas before handing over the machine to someone else or parting with money.

Once the fault is identified through it might be best to give it to a pro to sort it. Many laptops are fiddly to disassemble and more so to assemble correctly afterwards.

EDIT:

I would look at any of the suggested tools carefully before using them. I would certainly google each one for users comments.
