It is a good idea to follow the advice of the manufacturer and ensure you have a constant source of power (aka, battery backup) as very bad things can and do happen when the programming cycle is interrupted. It only takes one 'bricked' board to remind you if you've ever done that (memories from the early 80's...back when an entry level motherboard was over $200).
