Thomas,
newspaper article regarding BHP:

BHP (20 December 1997)

BHP announced a net profit of $793 million for the first half of the year, slightly up on the corresponding period last year. This year's result was adversely affected by the $43 million net loss (BHP's share) resulting from the forced shut-down of the Ok Tedi mine in PNG.

BHP will pay a steady interim fully-franked dividend of 25› a share but says the fallout from the Asian financial upheaval will impact heavily on BHP as around one third of BHP's business is done in Asia.

An early report said that the nett profit was 40% higher than many in the market were expecting. Other reports said the final figure was helped by the weak Australian dollar.
