6/26/15 Contest update
The Supreme Court gave me and most of the country multiple reasons to celebrate this week. However, although you might have thought their upholding of Obamacare (or SCOTUScare, as Justice Scalia now dubs it) would give biotech stocks another excuse to party, the biotech investor constitution decreed otherwise. So, as it turned out, the pro-Obamacare decision was more of an anticlimax than cause for jubilance and, apart from some super-hot IPOs, biotech stocks finished the week largely heading south.
At Friday’s close, the Contest median was up 34.92% YTD (vs. up 35.37% YTD a week ago), the Nasdaq Biotech Index closed up 22.70% YTD (vs. up 24.33% YTD a week ago), while the smaller-cap S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index closed up 34.05% YTD (vs. up 35.58% YTD a week ago). The Nasdaq Composite Index was up 7.27% YTD (vs. up 8.04% YTD a week ago).
DEWDIL’s portfolio, up 86.48% YTD, had an off week but still managed to hold first place. DANIEL’s portfolio, up 82.03% YTD and DONS’ portfolio, up 72.82% YTD, continuing in second and third place.
At Friday's close, 49 of the 51 Contest portfolios were in the black with 36 beating the NBI and 27 beating the SPSIBI. The 206 Contest stock picks have an average YTD gain of 24.69% and a median YTD gain of 8.06%.
Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the week’s Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks. (Prices not converted to US$ in these Tables.)
Portfolio adjustments: None.
(All corrections, especially adjustments for buyouts & splits, greatly appreciated.)
Have a safe and relaxing last June weekend biotechies!
Peace & good health,
Bulba
