I believe in Louisiana he continues to be popular; certainly, in areas outside of NOLA. NOLA is not liberal but does have a lot people who vote Democrat because they don't know better.

IIRC he was a Rhodes Scholar, which does suggest he is reasonably intelligent and certainly more intelligent and determined than most of us.

I spend a lot of time in Louisiana and know a large number of people there. I don't see any indication of opposition to him.
