.... just saw a fantastic 2 hour documentary on the great '38 Northeast hurricane that hit eastern Long Island and southern New England. As a kid I spent a lot of time fishing out in Shinnicock Long Island for fluke in the bay and stripers in the surf. I remember going out to the inlet every evening if the tide was right hoping to catch one of the few days every year when the big chopper blues came right into the inlet. I was always in awe of the power of the tide through that inlet............most amazing was the fact that the inlet was cut thru by the '38 hurricane.....it had not existed before the storm.....................nearly 700 KILLED in that hurricane.........an epic storm...................now 3 generations later and largely forgotten........poised for an encore
